Last night was Sasquatch’s turn to teach Family Home Evening. Sasquatch will be three in a few weeks, so her family home evening lessons are always very short, cute, and uplifting.
She chose the tenth article of faith as the topic for her lesson.
“We believe in the literal gathering of Israel and in the restoration of the Ten Tribes; that Zion (the New Jerusalem) will be built upon the American continent; that Christ will reign personally upon the earth; and, that the earth will be renewed and receive its paradisiacal glory.” – Articles of Faith 1:10
This is a little advanced for a three-year-old – even with help.
Panda (my nine year old daughter) wanted to help with planning Family Home Evening. The article of faith was even a little advanced for her. We talked about the meaning of the article of faith, and we really focused on the end – what the earth will be like when Christ returns.
Panda decided she would help Sasquatch teach this lesson by giving a short talk about her favorite things in the world around us.
Sasquatch loves – going to Mrs. Meg’s house, leaves, pink flowers, and purple flowers. And chocolate. She colored her pictures, and explained what was on them, and then we brought out the treats…
Sasquatch was cute, and it was really pleasing to see, as a mother, Panda help her prepare. As much as I love being hands-on with my children, it is also really great to see my older daughters be so loving to the younger kids.
After Sasquatch gave her little lesson, she announced that we had little, tiny chocolates for dessert…they were king size. It was a nice, short, sweet Family Home Evening.
As I write this, I realize – there wasn’t really much that I learned last night in Family Home Evening. I doubt the older girls learned anything. Yet the Spirit infused our home as we all watched sweet little Sasquatch. This is what Family Home Evening is all about.
