God’s Triumph

“Lift up your eyes to the heavens, and look upon the earth beneath; for the heavens shall vanish away like smoke, and the earth shall wax old like a garment; and they that dwell therein shall die in like manner. But my salvation shall be forever, and my righteousness shall not be abolished.” – 2 Nephi 8:6

“Hosanna! Blessed be the name of the Most High God!” – 3 Nephi 11:17

At this point in the Oratorio by Handel, we are treated with the quintessential “Hallelujah Chorus.” I love that – we are pleading with God to save us now, and we are praising His name forever (and ever).

I thought that, for the purpose of this scripture chain, I’d include two scriptures. The first illustrates how temporary the nature of everything is – including the Heavens and the Earth. However, the salvation of God is NOT temporary. It lasts forever and offers us eternal hope.

After such knowledge, what else can we do but exclaim, as the Nephites did at Christ’s coming, “Hosanna!”

God has triumphed over the wiles of Satan. He has triumphed over death and sin – so we could return to Him. I can’t think of a more hopeful message.
