Reflections – Traditions

leaves on the porch

It is fall, and I’m really excited.  I think that one of my favorite things about fall is the traditions that come with the season and with the holidays.

Traditions were fun as a kid, but they take on a new meaning as a mother.  I love making costumes.  I love taking out Halloween decorations, picking pumpkins, and making treats.

I love planning impossible Thanksgiving dinners, baking pies, and eating stuffing.

I love shopping for Christmas presents- for weeks in advance, finding great presents, wrapping, making candy, writing Christmas cards.  I love displaying our family’s nativities, playing Christmas music, and making glittery crafts.

I actually love all of the Holidays better now as mother.  It isn’t because I had a bad childhood – mine was great, and I have many happy memories….But traditions and holidays are better as a mother, and I think it’s because I get to spend my time in service.
